Seafood2030 investigates pre-competitive collaborations for new issue brief series installment
Seafood2030 has published the second volume in its issue brief series, “How Collaborative Leadership is Turning Seafood into the Protein of the Future.”
The new issue brief looks at the growing influence of pre-competitive collaborations in seafood and how such a strategy is helping seafood become more competitive in global protein markets.
Pre-competitive collaboration has become an effective strategy in seafood to address production and supply-chain challenges that impact multiple companies or sectors, according to the issue brief. The work of the National Fisheries Institute’s Crab Council, the Sustainable Seafood Coalition, GSSI, and other collaborations are removing pain-points and addressing challenges that have served as barriers to the growth of seafood markets in the past, Seafood2030 discovered in its investigation.
Industry collaborations are finding success by serving as platforms for innovation – providing the research and development capacity seafood needs to improve the production, delivery, and marketability of seafood. These programs are able to spread the investment and risk across multiple companies while delivering value for an entire sector. The collaborations working in seafood now are refining a model for innovation, the issue brief notes, which will be essential to seafood’s ability to increase market share in future global protein markets.
