Prices for Norwegian salmon are up NOK 2.95 (USD 0.28, EUR 0.26) week-on-week, according to the Nasdaq Salmon Index, continuing an upward trend and bringing salmon prices close to, or surpassing, all-time highs.

The weighted average index of weekly sales prices and volumes of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted – reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers – found the average per-kilogram price of Norwegian salmon reached NOK 127.28 (USD 12.14, EUR 11.25) in the tenth week of 2023 – a near-historically high price. The price is also up significantly from the NOK 82.69 (USD 7.69, EUR 7.27) a kilogram of salmon fetched in the same period of 2022.

The meteoric increase in prices has impacted sales volumes. According to Fish Pool, reported total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters in the eleventh week of 2023 continued to decrease, dropping 1 percent, or 115 metric tons (MT), compared to the prior week. That number is also down 20 percent, or 3,450 MT, from the corresponding week in 2022. Over the past five weeks, volumes have decreased 16 percent, or 13,706 MT, compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
