Norwegian salmon prices continued to rise in the tenth week of 2023.

Prices are up NOK 1.02 (USD 0.094, EUR 0.090) week-over-week, according to the Nasdaq Salmon Index, continuing a rise that has seen salmon prices get close to or surpass all-time highs.

The weighted average index of weekly sales prices and volumes of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted – reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers – found the average per-kilogram price of Norwegian salmon reached NOK 124.32 (USD 11.51, EUR 10.91) the ninth week of 2023 – a near-historical high price that's up significantly from the NOK 82.69 (USD 7.69, EUR 7.27) salmon fetched in the same period of 2022.

The meteoric rise in prices has begun to impact sales volumes. According to Fish Pool, reported total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters in the tenth week of 2023 decreased 7 percent,or 1,103 metric tons (MT), compared to the prior week. That number is also down 17 percent, or 2,837 MT, from the corresponding week in 2022. Over the past five weeks, volumes have decreased by 14 percent, or 12,577 MT, in comparison to the corresponding period of 2022.
