Darian McBain announces departure from Thai Union
Thai Union Group Global Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Darian McBain has stepped down from her role with the seafood giant, according to a 14 July announcement.
McBain, who joined Thai Union six years ago as its global director of sustainable development, posted a memo to LinkedIn on Wednesday, 14 July signaling her departure from the company.
“Today is my last day working as global director of corporate affairs and sustainability at Thai Union Group PCL,” McBain wrote. “I joined just over six years ago, and what a ride it has been! As one of the first seafood companies to hire a chief sustainability officer reporting to the CEO, my role has taken me from European yellow cards to U.S. TIP reports, from global campaigns by NGOs against to awesome collaborations with NGOs for, from fishery improvement projects to alternative proteins, it has been anything but dull.”
In her post, McBain expressed gratitude for her peers and colleagues in the industry.
“Not many jobs allow you to live in beautiful Thailand, travel the world, work with amazing people, and try to do something good for people and the planet every day. While working for the seafood industry on sustainability, I hope I have also been able to fly the flag for diversity, equity, and inclusion,” she said.
Over the next few months, McBain said she would be advising Thai Union as it searches for her replacement. In the meantime, her “awesome team will continue to fight the good fight,” she said.
Over the course of her entire career thus far, McBain has amassed more than 20 years' of sustainability experience and expertise. She was integral to the creation and rollout of Thai Union’s first global sustainability strategy, SeaChange, which is comprised of commitments and initiatives that address issues facing the seafood industry by contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Before coming to Thai Union, McBain served as co-director of a business sustainability consultancy for Blue Sky Green. She has also worked as director of policy/sustainable development executive for the National Health Service (NHS) Purchasing Agency and has worked with the U.N. in communications.
