The parent company of Young’s Seafood Limited and Karro Food Group has settled on a new name: Eight Fifty Food Group.

Di Walker, the CEO of the multi-protein food group, which has collective sales of around GBP 1.2 billion (USD 1.4 billion, EUR 1.3 billion), said its new name was established through a collaborative effort.

“Our new name was co-created with colleagues from across the Karro and Young’s businesses and stems from there being approximately 850 acres in one square nautical mile and as such represents the unity of land and sea and the two important protein categories that make up our business,” Walker said in a press release. “It also reflects the coming together of Karro and Young’s into a new Group and our ambitious plans to grow the two businesses, as well as pursuing further growth in protein food categories currently experiencing significant growth."

Eight Fifty Food Group was created through Karro’s purchase of Young’s in July 2019, “as part of a plan to create an ambitious multi-protein food business of considerable scale,” according to the enterprise. Both Young’s and Karro will continue to operate as two separate businesses, the companies confirmed.
