Young’s launches Mini Battered Fillets for school caterers preparing for a new style of lunch service
Grimsby, United Kingdom-based Young’s Seafood’s foodservice division is launching 60-gram Mini Battered Fillets aimed at helping school caterers plan for the upcoming academic year.
The new line has been developed to meet School Food Guidelines, according to Young’s Foodservice, and can be served with vegetables or included in various grab-and-go carriers, thanks to its convenient sizing. Young’s said in a press release that the products are ideal “for tasty, socially distanced school lunches that can be prepared quickly and efficiently by school caterers.”
Young’s Mini Battered Fillets are made using skinless and boneless wild Alaska pollock as well as a signature “golden bubbly batter.” Made in Britain, the products are Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified and responsibly-sourced, Young’s said.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has shifted how lunch services are carried out, Young’s noted, which informed the company’s creation of the Mini Battered Fillets.
“As well as ensuring dishes suit the new style of lunch service, it is crucial for school caterers to offer hot dishes that are nutritious, substantial and supply enough protein and carbohydrate content to keep children going throughout the day,” the company said in its press release. “The Mini Battered Fillet can easily be made grab-and-go friendly when served as an alternative to the classic fish finger sarnie in a wrap, pitta, or roll with a simple salad and optional sauces.”
“Planning menu’s is sure to be more challenging but having versatile products that have been specially developed to meet the School Food Standards will make the process easier,” Young’s Foodservice Director of Foodservice Adrian Greaves added. “The balance between the tender Alaska pollock fillet center and golden bubbly outer makes for a delicious and nutritious solution that can be served in many ways to suit takeaway service. The Young’s MSC Mini Battered Fillet is the ideal size for children’s appetites and offers caterers a responsibly sourced, high quality product that meets their budget. It’s our aim to continue developing different solutions to ensure we are meeting the needs of all school caterers and keeping children happy throughout their school day.”
Mini Battered Fillets come in 60-gram portions and can be cooked in the oven or using a deep fryer directly from frozen. They come in case sizes of 48 x 60 grams, Young’s said.
