Young’s launches mussels, cod Gastro products
Grimsby, United Kingdom-based Young’s Seafood is launching two garlic-themed products: Scottish Mussels in Creamy Garlic and White Wine Sauce and Creamy Garlic Topped Cod Fillets.
The mussels product will launch in Iceland stores this month, while the cod item will launch in Tesco stores, it said in a press release.
Both products have been designed to appeal to shoppers looking for affordable, restaurant-quality meals they can enjoy at home, at a time when 57 percent of customers are cutting back on eating out due to the cost of living, according to Young’s.
“As consumers increasingly seek products that can recreate a dine out experience at home, we have looked to build on our position as the number one brand in premium fish by developing an expanded range that offers even more restaurant-style flavors at affordable prices,” Paul Craft, chief commercial officer for Young’s owner Sofina Europe said.
The new launches come on the sales success of Young’s Gastro range, which grew 17 percent in August 2022 versus August 2019, to GBP 72.5 million (USD 84 million, EUR 83.6 million).
The rope-grown Scottish mussels are served in a “deliciously creamy sauce packed full of garlic and white wine – perfect when served as a main course alongside crusty bread for an at home date night,” Young’s said.
Plus, the first shellfish product in the Gastro range is microwaveable in seven minutes, “making it ideal for consumers looking to cut back on their oven usage due to rising energy costs,” Young’s said.
The suggested retail price is GBP 4.00 each (USD 4.65, EUR 4.61).
The Young’s Gastro Garlic Topped Cod Fillets are topped with a parmesan, mozzarella and chive breadcrumb crust and the cod fillets are served with a cream and garlic sauce. The 350-gram packs also retail for a suggested GBP 4.00 each.
Young’s also announced a new listing in Sainsbury’s for its Gastro Atlantic Salmon Puff Pastry Parcels.
“Topped with a creamy spinach and mature cheddar sauce, the recipe was developed to offer consumers a popular fish species in a new format and makes the perfect indulgent treat in the run-up to Christmas,” Young’s said.
