USD 3000 worth of king crab stolen from California fish market
On 1 May, USD 3,000 (EUR 2,700) worth of king crab was allegedly stolen from a fish market in Morro Bay, California, U.S.A., the company said on its Facebook page.
According to KSBY, Giovanni's Fish Market & Galley Owner Giovanni DeGarimore said the theft took place at approximately 11:30 p.m., hours after the market closed at 6 p.m.
DeGarimore said a suspect, who was seen on video footage taken by a closed-circuit camera, allegedly also “made off with an undisclosed large amount of cash.”
While DeGarimore acknowledged missed protocols and an alarm malfunction ocurred the night of the theft, he said the alleged thief was identifiable because he was visible in the footage driving an SUV-style vehicle, accompanied by two black-and-white dogs resembling border collies.
"We are so thankful for the support of the community in times like this and we have every reason to believe this man will be caught, especially considering he has identifying clothes and can be identified somewhat clearly in the video," DeGarimore tpld KSBY. "Moreover, the fact that he brought his two black and white border collies on this job, and is seen driving away in a black SUV, should ring a bell for somebody."
DeGarimore is offering a USD 1,000 (EUR 908) reward for the identification of the alleged perpetrator. He said since 2021, four additional incidents of vandalism and theft have occurred at his market.
"In all instances except one, we were able to identify the victims with [our] camera and they were all arrested, convicted, and charged and ordered to pay restitution," DeGarimore said. "So we have a pretty good track record of using social media and the help of the public along with the Morro Bay Police Department to catch our man."
