Thai Union’s subsidiary Thai Union Ingredients has launched a new product – a fine, off-white powder with a neutral taste and smell made from tuna bone, the company said in a statement on 14 January.

The powder, UniQTMBONE, which is both Halal and Kosher compliant, will be available for sale globally starting this month.

The production of the UniQTMBONE is in line with Thai Union’s focus to make sure that every part of the fish is fully used to reduce negative impacts to the environment.

The UniQTMBONE can be used for producing different types of food, capsules, and tablets, and serves as an additive for pet food and pet nutrition products. It is produced at a bone powder manufacturing facility that Thai Union has opened recently at the Songkla Canning factory in southern Thailand.

The very fine particle size, Thai Union said, makes it easy for UniQTMBONE to be added in products without making any change to sensory attributes, providing various nutrients for bone health. The powder is produced using fresh, food-grade raw material, with no additives, applying a production process that helps retain all-natural nutrients.

“Thai Union has built its business on not only providing the highest quality products to consumers around the world, but on constantly innovating and ensuring that we are providing cutting-edge developments in food and dietary products,” Thai Union CEO and President Thiraphong Chansiri said. “Our key Healthy Living, Healthy Oceans commitment means we are even better able to meet the growing demands of consumers in terms of leading healthy lifestyles, which start with the best nutrition.”

Thai Union Ingredients Managing Director Leonardus Coolen added that the company will continue to introduce other products that are produced by making full use of every part of the fish.

“This is the first of many to come as we have a number of other new products in the pipeline and are looking forward to bringing them to market,” Coolen said.

According to Thai Union, the intake of UniQTMBONE can help ensure that consumers take in recommended daily dose of calcium needed for the health of bones and teeth.
