Globalization has profoundly influenced how companies do business, making transparency regarding fair working conditions more complex. As business and human rights scandals are increasingly brought to light, government and industry leaders recognize the need for each of their respective roles in protecting worker rights and improving worker well-being. Companies, local advocacy organizations, worker organizations, and government institutions must work collaboratively to improve and implement programs and policies that support fair and decent working conditions.
This session expands understanding of the respective roles of business and government in creating supply chain transparency, improving conditions on fishing vessels, and establishing government policies for ending forced labor associated with, or occurring in, a country’s supply chains. Moving between presentations and discussion, the session is moderated by expert facilitators and includes speakers with strong technical understanding of government policy, human rights, and transparency at sea. Participants will take away concrete steps that businesses can follow to improve human rights in supply chains and a strong understanding of how to engage with governments to improve policy.
