Stavis Seafoods to occupy new Boston-based facility by 2018
Stavis Seafoods will become the anchor tenant for a new seafood facility scheduled to be built on the Boston Waterfront by September 2018, the company announced on 8 March at the Seafood Expo North America (SENA) event.
Massport approved the project, to be constructed on Parcel 5 of the Massport Marine Terminal in Boston, Mass. By way of the facility, Stavis will be able to bring all of its Boston-area locations under one roof – something the company has been hoping to do for more than five years now. The space to be occupied by Stavis is slated to measure out to 90,000 square feet; the company will use the facility for freezer, cooler processing and office space purposes.
The latest construction technologies will be used in the construction of the facility, making it the most technologically-advanced and environmentally-sound seafood processing facility in the state Massachusetts. The building represents an investment in excess of USD 40 million at the Port of Boston, setting it apart as one of the largest seafood-related private investments to exist in the Port’s history, noted Stavis. Construction on the facility will begin in fall of 2016.
“The fact that a great family business like Stavis Seafoods has found a home to grow and can continue to serve its customers from the South Boston Waterfront is a success story we should all be proud of,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “It’s important that we support blue-collar industries in the City of Boston, and I’m pleased that Stavis and Massport are doing exactly that in the Raymond Flynn Marine Park.”
“Massport is committed to expanding the seafood processing industry by making sure there is room in the Seaport District for businesses to grow,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “Having Stavis Seafoods as an anchor tenant for this development is an important example of the thriving nature of the seafood processing industry, and why port industrial land must be protected for the good paying blue-collar jobs that are supported by seafood processing. We are delighted Stavis Seafoods is taking a leading role in this effort.”
The building will come complete with a Cascade Refrigeration System, which involves hybrid a CO2/Ammonia refrigeration plant.
“It was important for us to keep our ties to the city and the waterfront,” said Richard Stavis, CEO and Director of Sales at Stavis Seafoods. “This new space allows us to do that. Moving all our Boston-area facilities into one location has been a long-term goal for us. It was necessary in order to meet our customers’ ever-expanding needs, so to do it in such an advanced efficient building in Boston is a home run for our company and Marine Park.”
Stavis Seafoods currently is headquartered on the Boston Fish Pier.
