Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will become the first hotelier in mainland China to use Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification, with an official announcement expected next month on the completion of the group's certification process.

Two Shangri La hotels in 2016 officially became the first two hotels in the city to achieve Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Chain of Custody certifications. The certifications entitle the hotel restaurant menus to include the MSC label to denote wild fish that comes from a certified sustainable source, and the ASC label to indicate sustainably-farmed seafood.

Shangri La properties in mainland China have for several years been hosting an annual seafood sustainability week organised in conjunction with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the China Chain Store Franchise Association (CCFA) and China Sustainable Retail Roundtable (CSRR). The Hong Kong-based group operates five different hotel brands, including Shangri La, Kerry, and Traders.
