Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global is set to take place on 26 to 28 April, 2022, in Barcelona, Spain – the first time the event will be held in Spain and the first event since COVID-19 forced event closures in 2020.

According to even organizer Diversified Communications, participants that have already signed up for the event are looking forward to resuming shows as a means of strengthening business relations with partners. [Editor's note: Diversified Communications also owns and operates SeafoodSource].

“We consider Seafood Expo Global to be of the utmost importance to be able to meet our business partners in-person, go over things together, exchange ideas, seek new opportunities, and strengthen our relationships with them,” Iceland Seafood International Head of Marketing and Communication Karl Hjálmarsson said in a press release. “Seafood Expo Global is the only seafood exhibition that gathers people from all over the world, whereas other events in which we also participate tend to be more regional.”

The show in Barcelona will be the 28th edition of Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, and the first show outside of Brussels, Belgium. The event has moved to Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, a move that Diversified said companies have “welcomed.”

“We chose Barcelona for the long-term growth opportunities the city, as an international destination, and Fira de Barcelona as a modern and innovative venue, have to offer,” Diversified Communications Group Vice President Liz Plizga said.

According to Diversified Communications Event Director Wynter Courmont, the expo has already received interest from all aspects of the industry.

“Major key players in the industry have already signed up for the 2022 event,” she said.

Companies that have signed up include Mowi ASA, Aquachile, Baader, True North, and dozens more. In addition, country pavilions from Argentina, Belgium, Chile, and more have also confirmed participation, Courmont said.

“As the renewal process continues, many more companies and country pavilions will be joining the 2022 event. We are thrilled to see such positive momentum this early in the process,” Courmont said.

Companies said the show will be a chance to connect and reconnect with new and old clients.

“Norwegian seafood and technology companies see the event as an important arena for meeting global industry players and for growing their sales. The pandemic has left many of us in a difficult situation. We have been away from industry events for such a long period of time,” Innovation Norway International Business Events Project Leader Lin Li said. “All the participating Norwegian companies are looking forward to the 2022 event when they can finally meet again with so many of their customers from all around the world.”
