SeafishTrade, SFT Angola see promise in West Africa

Founded in 2014, SFT Angola was created with the goal of selling African fish to Africans.

Based in Luanda, Angola, and with ownership currently residing in West Africa, the company annually catches and delivers thousands of metric tons of mackerel, horse mackerel, and herring to markets in West Africa, ranging from Liberia down the coast to Angola.

SFT Angola is affiliated with SeafishTrade, a Lithuanian fishing and trading firm whose owners have 25 years of experience in the seafood industry. SeafishTrade collectively landed more than more than 250,000 metric tons of seafood between its operations in the North Atlantic, Mauritania, Morocco, Angola, and Namibia, according to the company’s chief marketing officer, Igor Zolotnickij.

“SeafishTrade has grown very fast since we started [up] in 2010, and SFT Angola has also grown very fast,” Zolotnickij said.

As a first-time exhibitor at Seafood Expo Global this year, Zolotnickij said a primary purpose of the companies’ presence at the Brussels show was to show potential customers “the possibilities of Africa.”

“The company has made the decision to concentrate on the African market because it’s a big market already and it has great potential,” he said.
