U.K. seafood industry body Seafish and the newly-formed Global Seafood Assurances (GSA) have announced that Marcus Coleman, CEO of Seafish, is to join the board of GSA with immediate effect.

The announcement follows an agreement signed between the two organizations in April this year that GSA would be the new home for the Responsible Fishing Scheme (RFS) from no later than May 2020, following a tender process.

A key priority for GSA and Seafish during the transition period is the development of "Version 2" of the RFS standard, which will build on the experience of the UK sector and reflect future industry needs across global supply chains.

Marcus Coleman, Seafish CEO, said that this is “an exciting time” for the RFS with current certified members contributing more than 25 percent of the U.K. fleet’s landings by value, and over 30 percent by volume.

“Migration to the GSA will enable the RFS to reach its full potential as part of a ground-breaking global supply chain assurance initiative,” he said.
