Scottish salmon gains market share in UK, but overall sales decline

Sales of salmon across the U.K. retail market are likely to total GBP 1.2 billion (USD 1.5 billion, EUR 1.4 billion) in 2022, and salmon's market share is increasing ahead of the busy Christmas period, according to new data published by producer organization Salmon Scotland.

“With food price rises, soaring energy bills, and rampant inflation, the fact that salmon has increased its share of the U.K. market demonstrates the popularity of our fish,” Salmon Scotland Chief Executive Tavish Scott said. “With the busy Christmas period upon us, our farmers are working hard to ensure that we can meet the demand for nutritious salmon to be served on dinner tables across the country.”
