Scoot Science welcomes former Skretting IT manager as new software engineer
Roddy Morrison is joining Scoot Science as a software engineer in Canada, the ocean forecasting technology company announced on 13 April.
In his new role, Morrison – who has more than 20 years of aquaculture-specific IT experience working for companies such as Skretting, Marine Harvest Canada, and Stolt Sea Farm – will assist aquaculture businesses in operating more efficiently. He’ll work directly with aquaculture company IT departments on technical integrations, manage customer data integrations and customizations, and support Scoot Science product development, the company said.
Morrison comes to Santa Cruz, California, U.S.A.-based Scoot Science most recently from Skretting North America, where he oversaw the firm’s Vancouver, Eastern Canada, and Salt Lake City, Utah regions as its innovation and business IT manager. Before that, he served as IT director for North America at Mowi Canada, and as abusiness systems analyst for Stolt Sea Farm.
“We’re a team of oceanographers working to unlock the potential of ocean observing and help aquaculture companies operate more productively in their own environment,” Scoot Science CEO Jonathan LaRiviere said. “Roddy’s depth of experience in aquaculture IT brings an important perspective on how to efficiently and practically meet data analytics needs in the industry. His industry knowledge, paired with the oceanographic capabilities of Scoot Science, will give ocean farming businesses a clear pathway for leveraging their existing ocean observing tools to maximum effect.”
Morrison said he looks forward to supporting the North American aquaculture sector.
“I’ve spent my career working with the technology and data sets aquaculture companies generate and use to analyse the coastal areas of Scotland, Norway, and Eastern/Western Canada,” he said. “Scoot has the ability to support these businesses in two ways - first, by pooling that data into one main hub, and then taking it a step further by creating a tool that forecasts future ocean events. This technology will change the way ocean farms operate.”
Scoot has found its first Canadian employee in Morrison. Currently, Grieg Seafood ASA is using the company’s technology for its operations in British Columbia.
