Prices for Norwegian salmon have remained steady after they abruptly dropped last week.

According to the Nasdaq Salmon Index, the weighted average index of weekly sales prices and volumes of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted – reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers – increased to NOK 111.49 (USD 10.69, EUR 9.72) per kilogram in the fourteenth week of 2023.

That represents an average price increase of 0.22 percent, or NOK 0.04 (USD 0.04, EUR 0.03) from NOK 111.24 (USD 10.67, EUR 9.70), Nasdaq reported.

Current average prices are still well beyond the per-kilogram average from a year ago, when they averaged NOK 82.97 (USD 7.96, EUR 7.24).

The very minor increase in price after the sudden drop hasn't heavily impacted sales volumes. According to Fish Pool, the reported total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters in the fourteenth week of 2023 increased 9 percent from last week, or 1,488 metric tons (MT), compared to the prior week. However, over the past five weeks, volumes have decreased 12.9 percent, or 10,911 MT, compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
