Slight rise recorded in weekly average price for Norwegian salmon
The average per-kilogram price for Norwegian farmed salmon rose to NOK 73.97 (USD 6.86, EUR 6.52), up NOK 0.12 (USD 0.011, EUR 0.011) over the past week, according to the Nasdaq Salmon Index.
The Nasdaq index provides weekly sales updates and a weighted average price for fresh, head-on gutted Atlantic superior salmon from Norway.
This past week, Norway exported a total of 24,851 MT of salmon, down from 27,882 MT in the corresponding week of 2022. The figure was slightly down from the 25,480 MT Norwegian suppliers exported overseas in week 37.
The index reported the average per-kilo salmon price has increased 3.90 percent, or NOK 2.78 (USD 0.26, EUR 0.25) over the past four weeks. Norwegian salmon prices declined 16.17 percent, or NOK 14.26 (USD 1.32, EUR 1.26) over the past 12 weeks.
One- to 2-kilogram salmon accounted for 1 percent of total sales, with an average price of NOK 54.49 (USD 5.06, EUR 4.82). Two-to-3-kilogram salmon accounted for 13.84 percent of total sales and sold for an average of NOK 65.42 (USD 6.07, EUR 5.77), up NOK 1.31 (USD 0.12, EUR 0.11). Three- to 4-kilogram salmon made up 30.84 percent of all fish sold and had a per-kilogram average price of NOK 72.30 (USD 6.71, EUR 6.38), an increase of NOK 2.61 (USD 0.24, EUR 0.23). The 4- to 5-kilogram category, comprising 29.28 percent of total sales, saw its average price go up NOK 0.12 (USD 0.11, EUR 0.11) from last week. Salmon weighing between 5 and 6 kilograms, representing 19.07 percent of total sales, reached an average per-kilogram price of NOK 77.44 (USD 7.19, EUR 6.83), up NOK 0.94 (USD 0.09, EUR 0.08).
Futures pricing for October showed a slight increase of NOK 74.00 (USD 6.87, EUR 6.55) from last week’s NOK 72.00 (USD 6.71, EUR 6.12), Fish Pool reported. November's futures pricing also stayed steady increasing at NOK 77.25 (USD 7.21, EUR 6.73), and December's future pricing stayed put at NOK 85.75 (USD 8.01, EUR 7.47). Future pricing for Q4 2023 has increased to NOK 79.00 (USD NOK 78.27 (USD 7.31, EUR 6.82).
