Northern Wind showcasing new line of lobster products at Seafood Expo North America
New Bedford, Massachusetts-based Northern Wind is planning to showcase its new line of MSC certified North Atlantic lobster products during Seafood Expo North America – taking place in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A. from 12 to 14 March, 2023.
The new products, the company said, are a part of the expanded product lines the company has been able to offer thanks to its acquisition by ACON Investments in 2021. That acquisition came with a merger between Northern Wind, Suncoast Seafood, and Raymond O’Neill & Son Fisheries to form Atlantic Sustainable Catch.
At the time, Northern Wind Founder and Chairman Ken Melanson told SeafoodSource the acquisition was a way to take the company to the next level. In a release announcing it would be showcasing MSC lobster, Northern Wind acknowledged the added resources of Suncoast Seafood and Raymond O’Neill & Son Fisheries have helped expand product lines by increasing its processing capabilities and sales depth.
The added capacity has given the company 75,000 square feet of processing capability, allowing it to expand into new products such as lobster. The company said it will showcase MSC certified North Atlantic frozen whole lobsters, lobster tails, split tails, lobster claws, and lobster meat.
“Northern Wind is very excited to showcase our new MSC Certified North Atlantic Lobster products at Seafood Expo,” said George Kouri of Northern Wind. “We remain focused on building Northern Wind into a seafood industry category leader that aligns with the needs and wants of our customers.”
Northern Wind added it also plans to continue to highlight its commitment to traceability. Not long after the acquisition by ACON in 2021, the Northern Wind also finalized its partnership with traceability software company Legit Fish to provide full-chain traceability for its domestically caught North Atlantic scallops. Melanson said the company is “eager to illustrate its transparency.”
“Northern Wind is eager to illustrate its transparency and communication initiatives front and center between our fishermen, customers, and suppliers,” Melanson said. “The industry itself and our customers have shown they want to know where their seafood is coming from and want to purchase seafood products where their traceability and sustainability can be substantiated.”
