Long John Silver’s, White Castle announce seafood specials as Lent begins
Long John Silver’s, White Castle, Hardees, and other restaurants chains are the latest to unveil seafood specials for the Lenten season.
More restaurant chains are featuring breaded or battered fish sandwiches this year, and shrimp dishes are also proving to be popular in 2021.
Through 4 April, Long John Silver’s (LJS) is offering a Fish & Shrimp Combo with one piece of hand-battered, wild-caught Alaska pollock, three pieces of shrimp, one side, two hushpuppies, and a drink. The Louisville, Kentucky-based seafood chain is also featuring shrimp in its USD 10.00 (EUR 8.30) Sea-Shares, featuring the customer’s choice of 15 grilled shrimp, 15 batter-dipped shrimp, or a shareable serving of crispy breaded popcorn shrimp. Customers can also order nine hand-battered chicken tenders or a six-piece hand-battered Alaska pollock option as part of the deal.
LJS’s Family Feast includes 12 batter-dipped shrimp as an appetizer, along with the customer’s choice to mix and match eight pieces of hand-battered fish or chicken. The seafood or chicken is paired with two family-size sides and eight hushpuppies, the restaurant chain said in a press release.
"Long John Silver's specializes in bringing our guests a swell of fresh seafood options 365 days a year," LJS Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Mattingly said. "And while we love our fish sandwiches, we're excited to kick off our Lenten season with promotions that provide an opportunity for guests to experience menu options they won't find anywhere else."
Elsewhere, White Castle is bringing back Shrimp Nibblers and Seafood Crab Cake Sliders through 4 April. The Shrimp Nibblers are bite-sized butterfly shrimp “coated with crispy golden goodness,” White Castle said in a press release.
White Castle already carries a Panko Fish Slider and Fish Nibblers, both made with wild Alaska pollock, along with Clam Strips.
Also during the Lenten season, Church’s Chicken is offering a Texas Tenders n’ Shrimp Meal, featuring crispy butterfly shrimp and chicken tenders.
In addition, Carl’s Jr’s and Hardees are both offering Beer Battered Fish Sandwiches, but the restaurant chains did not specify the type of fish used.
Captain D’s, Bojangles, and Joella’s Hot Chicken, along with Red Lobster, Quiznos, and a host of other restaurants, have also rolled out seafood items for Lent.
