Lineage opens expanded cold-storage facility in Denmark’s largest container port
Lineage Logistics opened a new expansion to an existing cold-storage facility in the Port of Aarhus, Denmark – the largest container port in the country – on 15 March.
The Novi, Michigan, U.S.A.-based company already had an existing cold-storage facility in the port, but the expansion has more than doubled its available space there, adding 18,000 pallet spaces to the facility to bring its capacity to 27,500 pallet spaces. In a press release, the company said it has room at the site for a further expansion to meet growing demand.
“This increased capacity will provide customers, including producers of fish and shellfish, with streamlined storage for their products at a key location connecting the import and export of seafood, linking Greenland and Denmark to the global market,” Lineage said.
The expansion comes as the state of supply chains in many parts of the world remains volatile, and as many cold-storage facilities are experiencing soaring demand.
Lineage Logistics Regional Vice President Carsten Wolf said the expansion is strategic, offering a gateway to global markets for Lineage’s customers.
“Lineage continues to invest where we believe we can provide our customers with the best end-to-end logistics solution,” Wolf said.
The facility is the only cold-storage facility in the port, which is the second-largest in Scandinavia. It handles millions of tons of cargo each year, and is capable of docking the largest container ships in service.
“I am extremely pleased that Lineage has chosen to significantly increase its investment in their capacity at the Port of Aarhus. This underlines the position of the Port of Aarhus as an important distribution hub for handling frozen and refrigerated goods – not only to Denmark, but to the Nordic region, Europe, and the rest of the world,” Mayor of Aarhus and Port of Aarhus Board Chair Jacob Bundsgaard said.
The Aarhus facility specializes in receiving, handling, and exporting seafood, pork, and dairy products, Lineage said,. The company said the new expansion is “built to high-energy efficiency and modern standards” and allow customers to leave products at the port before moving on to their final destination.
"We are proud to open this site in the Port of Aarhus, a critical connection to the Nordics and a strong partner in our commitment to a more effective supply chain,” Wolf said.
