A top producer of shellfish and other fish products in Italy, L’Acquachiara S.r.l., has achieved certification under the Friend of the Sea program. With this certification, L’Acquachiara’s products can display the Friend of the Sea eco-label.

“We have always aimed at searching for the best products possible coming from Italian and foreign suppliers in order to comply with the requirements of our customers, who are fish shops, wholesalers and supermarkets,” L’Acquachiara S.r.l said regarding the certification.

“For that reason, our position in the national and European market has strengthened, thanks to the way we work, which is to be scrupulous and to follow the highest quality standards,” the company added.

L’Acquachiara is located in Chioggia, in the Venice region of Italy, which is among the country’s busiest and most productive fishing centers. The company specializes in shellfish, particularly mussels. It buys only from trusted fishermen directly or from main European suppliers. L’Acquachiara also runs a modern purification plant.

“L’Acquachiara S.r.l. is a leader in the industry, so we’re very gratified to see their commitment to defending the marine environment,” said Paolo Bray, Director of Friend of the Sea. “With this certification, they are demonstrating how sustainability works in the supply chain of independent fishermen.”

Friend of the Sea, a project of the World Sustainability Organization, awards sustainable practices in fisheries, aquaculture, fishmeal, and omega-3 fish oil. The organization promotes pilot projects related to restaurants, sustainable shipping, whale and dolphin-watching, aquaria, ornamental fish, UV creams, and more.
