Grounded Packaging announces a new sustainable no-contact seafood packaging solution
Sydney, Australia-based Grounded Packaging recently announced the launch of a new no-contact sustainable packaging solution.
The product, named Re: Mono, is composed of 83 percent recycled materials and is intended for use in packaging meat and seafood products.
"We are excited to be launching our mono-material product, Re: Mono, an alternative to the plastic that is an indispensable packaging material for most food producers and retailers," Grounded Packaging Co-Founder Ben Grant said.
The new product is composed of a film animate using disposed plastic such as milk bottles and plastic bags in order to decrease an environmental impact. The product aims to target convenience, functionality, and proper food safety, Grant said.
Brands including seafood retailers often face difficulty utilizing sustainable packaging that allows food contact, Grant said.
“The packaging we’re launching today has been deemed unattainable by other flexible packaging manufacturers, and we look forward to bringing to market more sustainable products like Re: Mono that are helping consumers and brands join the fight against the climate crisis,” said Grant.
During the four-year creation process, Grounded Packaging worked with partners to ensure control sourcing, material sortation and ensure PCR materials were blended sustainably. The company announced a mission of eliminating four million kilograms of plastic from the ocean by the end of 2022.
