GAA to reveal “next phase in the responsible seafood journey” at special luncheon in Brussels
A luncheon to be hosted by the Global Aquaculture Alliance in Brussels, Belgium next week during Seafood Expo Global will serve as a launching point for a new independent not-for-profit organization intended to provide credible supply chain assurances for both farmed and wild seafood.
The new organization represents “the next phase in the responsible seafood journey,” GAA said in its announcement for the luncheon, which will take place on Wednesday, 25 April, from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. in room 1121 at the Brussels Exhibition Center.
GAA’s current executive director Wally Stevens will discuss the details of the new venture, and will later participate in a panel alongside key industry experts including The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Huw Thomas, Direct Seafoods’ Laky Zervudachi, and Estelle Brennan of Labeyrie Fine Foods. A light lunch will be served before the news event, moderated by SeafoodSource, is kicked off at 1:30 p.m., GAA said.
Several special guest speakers will also be in attendance to provide insight into the new GAA venture. Those wishing to attend the luncheon are asked to RSVP in advance.
GAA, a trade association known for its work in advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture, is the developer of the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program. Headquartered in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S.A., GAA is also the organizer of the aquaculture conference GOAL, taking place this year in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in September.
