France Pélagique has contracted with Havyard Ship Technology to design and build a new trawler that will bring state-of-the-art technology to its pelagic fishing efforts.

France Pélagique, part of the Dutch Cornelis Vrolijk Group, will use the new trawler to fish for herring, mackerel and blue whiting. The 80-meter ship, expected to be delivered in December 2018, will replace one of the two French-flagged trawlers of France Pelagique, both of which were built in the 1980s. The agreement contains an option for the construction of a second ship, according to  Cornelis Vrolijk.

"With this new ship, we strengthen our ambition to fish with an eye for the future: maintaining healthy fish stocks, minimizing environmental impact and involving committed and proud people," France Pélagique Managing Director Antoine Dhellemmes said.

At Seafood Expo Global on Tuesday, 25 April, Jon Birgir Gunnarsson, director of sales and marketing forSkaginn 3X, an Icelandic technology firm, told SeafoodSource his company had won the contract to outfit the new trawler with ts proprietary technology for grading, packing, freezing and palletizing the vessel’s catch.

Skaginn 3X is exhibiting at Seafood Expo Global in Hall 4, booth #6127.
