Fortune acquires D’Artagnan, expanding distribution in Northeast US
Bensenville, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Fortune International announced it has acquired Union, New Jersey, U.S.A.-based D’Artagnan Inc., a move the company said will expand its food distribution in the Northeast United States.
D’Artagnan, founded by Ariane Daguin in 1985, is a purveyor of gourmet meat and seafood products, including free-range meat, all-natural organic poultry, foie gras, and several seafood products – including salmon, cod, and caviar. The company, Fortune said, was a leader in the popularizing the farm-to-table movement, and provides products to U.S. restaurants and retailers and has a growing e-commerce business. The exact terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“We are excited to welcome Ariane and her talented team to our platform as the preferred supplier to top restaurants and retailers in the U.S.,” Fortune President and CEO Sean O’Scannlain said. “In joining together, we combine Fortune’s strength in fresh seafood with D’Artagnan’s in free-range meat, offering customers their protein needs across virtually any market. We also look forward to building upon D’Artagnan’s successful direct-to-consumer e-commerce services.”
D'Artagnan has five primary operations in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, and Texas, which have roughly 260 employees combined and over 80 delivery trucks. Fortune said that the company’s locations will expand the company’s footprint into D’Artagnan’s markets, in addition to granting new relationships with retailers.
“I am excited to partner with and join Fortune, which is a company as committed to its customers and uncompromising service as we have always been,” Daguin, who is D’Artagnan’s CEO, said. “We have come a long way from our humble beginnings 38 years ago. I am extremely excited for D’Artagnan’s future and want to thank our customers and vendors for their support through all these years.”
According to Fortune, the acquisition is its thirteenth since launching the company’s acquisition strategy in 2012. Late last year the company acquired Houston, Texas-based Ocean Harvest Wholesale, and in September 2021 it acquired Green Bay, Wisconsin-based Meat Processors Inc. just weeks after it announced the acquisition of Theodore, Alabama, U.S.A.-based CCT Logistics Inc. – a 68,000-square-foot cold storage facility. Earlier acquisitions include JDY Gourmet, Coastal Seafoods, and Morey’s Seafood International’s St. Louis and Kansas City operations.
