First Barcelona-based Seafood Expo Global hosting comprehensive conference program
The 28th edition of Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, taking place in Barcelona, Spain from 26 to 28 April, 2022, will feature a conference program with international experts from the seafood sector.
The program covers 20 educational sessions ranging from panels on seafood industry business and leadership, an overview on climate change’s impact on the industry, and an update on the aquafeed sector, with 65 international experts featured across the three-day event. [Editor's note: Diversified Communications also owns and operates SeafoodSource].
Prominent names and organizations to be featured during the conference program include Amy Novogratz, co-founder and managing partner at Aqua-Spark; Javier Garat, the president of Europêche and the International Coalition of Fisheries Associations (ICFA); and Skretting Sustainability Manager Jorge Diaz.
Global economist, Financial Times columnist, and Harvard Kennedy School Senior Fellow Megan Greene will start the program off with a keynote presentation titled, “Economic Outlook for 2022.” Greene will examine where the global recovery is heading through the study of “high frequency economic data, structural trends, global flows, political factors, and policy developments,” Diversified said in a press release.
The conference will also feature “From Revolution to Evolution: The Fishery and Aquaculture Market in a Post COVID-19 World,” a workshop providing insight into new business opportunities, emerging markets, and changes in consumer behavior in a “new pandemic era.” The session will feature EUMOFA Project Manager Alessandro Pititto; FAO Deputy Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Audun Lem; ANFACO-CECOPESCA Deputy Secretary General Roberto Carlos Alonso Baptista de Sousa; and European Commission Policy Officer Christophe Vande Weyer.
The conference has a few primary themes across its sessions, including sustainability, the care of the oceans, and the challenges facing aquaculture and fisheries. SWEN Blue Ocean Managing Director Christian Lim and Ocean 14 Capital Co-Founder and Managing Partner Chris Gorell Barnes will join Novogratz to discuss how technology advances the seafood industry during “Venture Capital and Technologies Advancing the Seafood Industry” on 26 April. “Eating Up the Oceans – How Do We Save Our Oceans?” will cover solutions to tackle overfishing, pollution, and habitat loss in a session hosted by Google Vice President of Global Workplace Programs Michiel Bakker.
“Other discussions will examine the importance of increasing transparency about human rights risks in seafood supply chains in order to advance social responsibility in the industry, as well as the opportunities that a meta-collaborative approach can offer to the seafood industry, where economies of scale can be employed and the sustainability of seafood products can be improved,” Diversified said. “The conference program will also feature case studies with practical and theoretical approaches that can be applied to seafood businesses in real time.”
