New positive cases of COVID-19 at Da Yang Seafood in Astoria, Clatsop County, Oregon have led the company to temporarily close operations at its facility.

Two more workers tested positive for COVID-19 at the facility, Clatsop County reported on 28 July. The workers, a man and a women, are both in their 40s and are staying at home, the Daily Astorian reported.

On 23 July, a worker tested positive for the coronavirus, and Clatsop County tested all of the 160 workers for the virus in response. The county is still getting results back.

On 27 July, Clatsop County reported that a second worker had tested positive. With the two additional cases found on 28 July, the total number of workers who have tested positive at the processing plant has risen to four.

Last week, Clatsop County public officials said in a statement “the cooperation of Da Yang has allowed the county to respond quickly to the case, and [they were] hopeful any potential outbreak can be contained.”

Clatsop County has seen 71 cases of COVID-19 since 13 March. Oregon has had 17,721 cases and 311 statewide since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the state’s health authority.

Bornstein Seafoods in Astoria also saw a coronavirus outbreak in Astoria in May, and voluntarily shut its doors completely after more than two dozen workers tested positive for the virus. In June, Clatsop County Public Health Director Michael McNickle reported that 38 of the 46 cases that had been registered to that point could be traced to the outbreak at Bornstein or to a cluster of cases that occurred at the Pacific Seafood processing plant in Warrenton.

Bornstein Seafoods has since opened its facility. However, the company has permanently closed Warrenton Deep Sea, a retail market it purchased in 2006, the Daily Astorian reported.
