Following a development process of more than a year, seafood supplier Culimer is launching a new line of retail skinpack packaging at Seafood Expo Global 2018.

The skinpacked products will include a range of seafood, including Marine Stewardship Council-certified tuna steaks, raw lobster, and a sushi at home starter pack. All told, the new line will feature more than 15 different products, and more than five seafood species.

“As the meat industry has understood for a long time, skinpack products preserve the shape, texture, and integrity of the product for the best premium retail presentation and safest packaging solution,” Culimer said in a press release.

Products using the line can be packaged in a variety of positions (horizontally or vertically), and can use custom coloring, metallization, printing, embossing, or labelling. The packaging also creates a complete seal, preventing any liquid from escaping, and features an ‘easy-open’ corner.

A key component of the product release is Culimer’s “Superfrozen” tuna line. Superfrozen tuna is frozen onboard the vessels it is caught at minus 60 degrees Celsius, and then packaged in the new skinpack. Stores can then defrost the tuna inside the sealed packaging.

“By defrosting ‘skinpacked’ tuna in your retail store overnight, it is contamination free up to the point of consumption, giving your customers the ultimate taste of sashimi tuna,” Culimer said.

Culimer is presenting the complete skinpack product line at SEG 2018 in Hall 6, stand #6-1225.
