Smithfield, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-based Computer Associates (CAI), which offers enterprise resource planning software to the seafood industry, has made a dual acquisition of Alterity and Minotaur Software.

Based in Arlington, Texas, U.S.A., Alterity is the creator of Acctivate, software which centralizes inventory, purchasing, sales and order fulfillment. Mississauga, Ontario, Canada-based Minotaur Software provides data connectivity between food manufacturers’ office, plant, warehouse, and mobile workers.

“Combining CAI Software and Acctivate represents a significant milestone for both companies and our talented employees as we enhance our ability to serve customers,” CAI Software CEO Brian Rigney said in a press release. “Integrating Acctivate’s inventory capabilities with our industry-specific ERP and MES systems will help us deliver even more powerful solutions to our target industries, as they look to automate and grow their businesses.”

Post-acquisition, Alterity President and CEO Brian Sweat will become vice president and general manager of CAI Acctivate, which will start out with approximately 1,600 customers in the manufacturing, specialty food processing, building materials, wholesalers/distributors, metals and mining, and automotive sectors.

“We are delighted to join forces with CAI to further the operational initiatives for our customers. Our solution combined with CAI’s solutions are the essential building blocks for growing manufacturers and distributors around the globe,” he said.

William Chisholm, the managing partner of STG, which served as a private equity partner in the deal, said the acquisition will continue to transform CAI into an “outstanding” technology company.

“Acctivate’s leading inventory management offering broadens CAI's portfolio of mission-critical solutions, including ERP, MES, WMS, and inventory management, allowing us to better serve our global manufacturing and distribution customers,” Chisholm said. “We look forward to seeing this partnership positively impact employees, customers, and partners.”

Chisholm said the Minotaur acquisition will also further CAI’s growth aims.

“Combining the strengths of CAI Software with Minotaur software will continue to strengthen our offerings to the food and beverage global industry,” he said.

Rigney said the addition of Minotaur adds “robust food manufacturing and distribution functionality, enhancing capabilities across the entire manufacturing lifecycle from raw material purchasing, through receiving, warehouse movement, manufacturing, quality assurance (QA) and traceability, inventory control and handheld warehouse management, to order entry/invoicing, EDI, and accounting.”

Together, CAI Software and Minotaur will serve the food industry including food and beverage processing, meat and seafood processing to commercial bakeries, nutraceutical, and chemical manufacturing, and distributors, he said.

“Combining CAI Software and Minotaur brings key granular information for food manufacturers of all sizes to make more informed and timely business decisions in this ever-changing business environment,” Rigney said. “As we bring the companies together, we will continue to collaborate with our customers to develop solutions purpose-built to serve the unique requirements of this industry. I look forward to working with the entire Minotaur team as we enter our next chapter of growth.”

Judith Kirkness, formerly the vice president of Minotaur and now the vice president of CAI Minotaur sai her company was “excited to join forces with CAI to continue building reliable and relevant software and offering intelligent service to help support our customer’s growth and success.”

“Our solution combined with CAI’s larger solution offering and depth of experience serves as a foundation for growing food manufacturers around the globe,” Kirkness said.
