Seafood Expo North America / Seafood Processing North America, the largest seafood industry event of its kind on the continent, opened its doors today, Sunday, 11 March, in Boston, Massachusetts to thousands of buyers and suppliers for another recording-breaking year, the exposition’s organizer Diversified Communications announced.

The 2018 edition of the exposition features 1,341 exhibiting companies from 57 countries – including newcomers Fiji, Oman, Ukraine, and Venezuela – and more than 258,360 net square feet of exhibit space, an increase over the 253,660 net square feet available to explore in 2017. The three-day expo also packs a comprehensive conference program with more than 25 sessions, as well as a series of special events including a master class presentation, a chef demonstration, the 12th Oyster Shucking Competition, and the Seafood Excellence Awards competition for Best New Retail Product and Best New Foodservice Product.

SENA18 offers “a sizable sales opportunity” for suppliers from all around the world to bring their products to buyers from restaurants, supermarkets, catering firms, seafood markets, hotels, airlines, cruise lines and more, Diversified explained.

“The value of attending is more than just transactional. It’s also an occasion for industry influencers to connect in person on issues ranging from consumer trends to best business practices to public policy considerations. These discussions take place both formally and informally on the exhibit floor, at special events, and in the information-packed conference,” the company said in a news release.

Seeing the show floor bustling with business and innovation is a point of pride for its organizers, according to Wynter Courmont, event director for Diversified Communications.

“It is very impressive to see a packed convention center with so many companies presenting their seafood products, services or processing equipment to the North American market,” Courmont said. “Walking the exhibit floor, you can see, hear, and feel the pulse of the seafood industry. Through in-person conversations and meetings, as well as in the structured conference program, people can get a clear sense of the trends their peers are excited about, and engage in productive conversations about emerging challenges."
