Bluefront Equity-owned Seacloud has acquired the environmental monitoring products and software suite of Meox, a technology firm based in Namsos, Norway.

Alta, Norway-based Seacloud, a provider of cloud-based software and sensor technology for analysis and utilization of management data for commercial aquaculture operators, was acquired by Bluefront Equity in December 2022. It merged with Naviaq in August 2023.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but will include a transfer of Meox’s subsidiary company GuardianAQ AS to Seacloud, as well as all intellectual property and commercial rights for Meox’s “Guardian” product range. The Guardian products are battery-powered buoys that measure and wirelessly transmit data on oxygen levels, salinity, water flow, temperature, and turbidity in fish farms. Seacloud said there are currently around 570 Guardian buoys in use in Norway, Iceland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, and Greece.

“Our objective is to offer both Seacloud’s and Meox’s customers a more holistic environmental monitoring solution than what is available today. We also look forward to bringing the Guardian-products into our product portfolio,” Seacloud Managing Director Jens-Harald Jenssen said.

The acquisition is central to Seacloud’s growth and consolidation strategy “to build the fish farming industry’s most robust software-as-a-service (SaaS) company,” Jenssen said in a press release. He said the company aims to offer a range of sensor products and software that provide a comprehensive overview of environmental conditions inside aquaculture systems, as well as insight into the performance of equipment, operations, and logistics systems.

“The solutions standardize, safeguard and make the fish farming industry’s work processes more efficient,” Jenssen said.

Sensor data from the Guardian buoys will now be integrated into the Seacloud platform, and users of Meox’s cloud-based software will be encouraged to transfer over to using Seacloud’s software, the company said.
