Gerhard Schubert dies; Another former Regal Springs exec joins eFisheries America

- On 4 July, Gerhard Schubert, the founder of the eponymously-named packaging company Gerhard Schubert GmbH, passed away at age 84, the company announced in a release. He founded Gerhard Schubert GmbH in 1966 in Crailsheim, Germany and grew the company into an internationally-known packaging company.
- On 28 June, Barramundi Group announced Lai Nge Kong, the head of real estate development company Far East Capital, has been appointed to the company's board. The Singapore-based firm recorded a SGD 31.9 million (USD 23.6 million, EUR 21.6 million) loss in 2022 and has lost several directors in recent months.
Former Regal Springs Sales Executive Edward Kiger has been appointed the head of eFishery America. Kiger left Regal Springs in February 2023 after nearly four years at the tilapia farmer, according to his LinkedIn. Bandung, Indonesia-based eFishery, which offers fish and shrimp farmers an end-to-end platform to access to feed, financing, and markets, was recently valued at more than USD 1.3 billion (EUR 1.2 billion).
Former Regal Springs Executive Kristin Veriga became the senior vice president of global shrimp at eFishery in November 2022. And former Regal Springs Chief Operating Officer Cameron MacLean joined eFishery as contracted project consultant in March 2023, according to his LinkedIn.
- Basola Valles has been appointed as Captian Fresh's CEO of European operations. The Bengaluru, India-based online platform, which matches seafood providers with retailers, has completed several successful funding rounds.
“With her strategic vision, extensive experience, and passion for disruptive innovation, Basola is set to make a profound impact as the CEO of Captain Fresh, Europe. Her remarkable journey, from the launch of Amazon in Spain, playing a pivotal role at CTS Eventim, supporting a global retailer’s turnaround as a board member to providing strategic industry advice at Salesforce, has equipped her with the expertise to navigate challenges with grace and determination,” the company wrote on LinkedIn. “Basola’s joining Captain Fresh is a testament to her commitment to driving growth and development in the fish and seafood industry.”
- On 5 July, Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) posted on LinkedIn seeking two non-executive board members to join its board. “These positions present the unique opportunity to support the direction of the association and the industry,” the organization wrote.
- Afton Vigue has been promoted to communications and outreach manager at the Maine Aquaculture Association, based in Gardiner, Maine, U.S.A.. According to her LinkedIn profile, Vigue has worked at the association for four years, previously as a outreach and development specialist.
-Ocean ecosystem and sustainability organization FishWise announced on 5 July the appointment of Ashley Peiffer to its social responsibility team. “We look forward to learning from her experience in community engagement, gender equality, and food security,” FishWise wrote on LinkedIn.
