Acme Smoked Fish expands facility, adds new product
Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-based Acme Smoked Fish Corp. is expanding both its production space and its product line.
The longtime family-operated supplier acquired a 43,000-square-foot building in Pompano Beach, Florida, U.S.A., that will be used for manufacturing and distribution. Acme is currently building out the space into a state-of-the-art smoked salmon facility and plans to hire 30 local employees for the new facility in the coming weeks, the company said in a press release.
Acme has operated a distribution center in Florida since 2005 to fulfill its Southeast customers’ orders. Acme also operates a 100,000-square foot facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, U.S.A. in addition to its Brooklyn headquarters. Acme sources and processes fish in Chile, and produces smoked fish in the U.S. state of Massachusetts with Spence & Co. and Norlax in Denmark.
Expanding production capabilities in Florida is “the next natural step for Acme and “one we are thrilled to pursue,” Acme Co-CEO Adam Caslow said.
“The cutting-edge facility will increase our capacity to provide high-quality smoked fish to customers near and far,” Caslow said.
Acme also recently added Togarashi Smoked Salmon to its line of hot and cold smoked salmon offerings. The supplier aims to introduce the Togarashi Smoked Salmon through many of its distribution channels in the coming weeks, with potential distribution to Costco, Whole Foods Market, Stop & Shop, Wegmans, and Kroger – where other Acme products are currently sold.
Togarashi, named one of the trendy spices for 2022 by Datassential, is a Japanese spice mix that includes dried chili peppers and other seasonings.
“We know from consumer research that people love the taste of smoked salmon and are open to trying new flavors,” Acme Senior Marketing Manager Ellen Lee-Allen told SeafoodSource.
Acme’s research and development team created the custom Togarashi seasoning, which “complements our smoked Nova Salmon perfectly,” Lee-Allen said.
