After hitting near all-time highs, Norwegian salmon prices have started to ease.

According to the Nasdaq Salmon Index, the weighted average index of weekly sales prices of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted – reported by a panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and salmon producers – decreased to NOK 110.08 (USD 10.22, EUR 9.24) per kilogram in the seventeenth week of 2023.

That represents an average price decrease of 10.23 percent, or NOK 12.55 (USD 1.16, EUR 1.05) from NOK 119.24 (USD 11.07 EUR 10.01) reported last week, Nasdaq reported. That price is still up 4.2 percent over the past month and 36.6 percent over the past 12 weeks.

The upward movement, despite a drop in early April, has salmon prices trending above 2022.

According to Fish Pool, the reported total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters in the sixteenth week of 2023 increased 5 percent, or 795 metric tons (MT), week-over-week, and up 21 percent, or 2,879 MT, year-over-year.

Volumes were flat over the most recent four-week period.
