Norwegian salmon prices continue to decline
Norwegian salmon prices declined more than 7 percent over the past week.
According to the weekly price sales update from the Nasdaq Salmon Index, the total weighted average index of fresh Atlantic superior salmon, head-on gutted, and decreased to NOK 103.08 (USD 9.56, EUR 8.82) per kilogram the 19th week of 2023, the panel of Norwegian salmon exporters and producers reported.
The drop represents an average of 7.7 percent, or NOK 8.60 (USD 0.80, EUR 0.74) from NOK 111.69 (USD 10.35, EUR 9.56) reported last week, according to last week’s Nasdaq report. Per-kilo prices reached an average of NOK 127.28 (USD 12.14, EUR 11.25) in the tenth week of 2023 – a near-historically high price.
Despite the decline, salmon prices continue to trend above those from a year ago.
Fish Pool reported the total sales volume for Norwegian salmon exporters in the nineteenth week of 2023 was down 20 percent, or 3,456 metric tons (MT), week-over-week, and increased by 4 percent, or 3,066 MT, year-over-year.
Volumes sold over the past month were nearly identical to those from a year ago.
