Cayetana Aljovín elected president of Peru’s National Fisheries Society
Former Peruvian Minister of Development and Social Inclusion and Minister of Energy and Mines Cayetana Aljovín Gazzani has been elected as president of Peru’s National Fisheries Society (SNP), with a term that will last through 2021.
Aljovín, currently the director of Interbank and president of the board of Azerta Comunicación Estratégica, will replace Elena Conterno Martinelli, who has served has president of SNP, Peru’s seafood trade body, since 2013.
In the 26 March election for SNP’s executive board, TASA’s Gonzalo de Romaña was selected as SNP’s first vice president and Pesquera Diamante’s Ricardo Bernales was chosen as second vice president.
Aljovín, who most recently served as Chancellor of the Republic, Peru’s lead foreign minister, pointed out the positive steps Peruvian fisheries have taken in the past decade as a result of laws putting in place fishing quotas. She praised the work that SNP has done to promote the sustainability of Peruvian fisheries, encourage innovation, and contribute to scientific research and dissemination, SNP reported in a press release.
Aljovín graduated with a law degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and also holds a master's degree in business administration from the Adolfo Ibáñez University in Chile. Besides her many public positions, Aljovín worked as a partner in the Estudio Miranda & Amado law firm, director of regulatory affairs for Bellsouth Peru, general manager of the Association of Capital Market Promoting Companies (Pro Capitals), general manager of Llorente & Cuenca, and vice president of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (CONFIEP). Aljovín has also taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, the National University of San Marcos, and the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences.
