The Mazzetta Company is dealing with the theft of hundreds of cases of its Oishii brand of shrimp allegedly stolen from a trailer outside of the Lineage Logistics cold-storage facility in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A on 27 April, 2023.

According to Mazzetta Company Vice President of Operations Joe Chekouras, the seals were cut on the company’s third-party carrier trailer, and 450 cases of 13-15 count shrimp were removed from their pallets, unwrapped, and taken away.

The carrier contacted Philadelphia Police Department, which sent officers to the scene who opened an investigation, which remains pending, Chekouras said.

Headquartered in Highland Park, Illinois, U.S.A., Mazzetta launched its Oishii shrimp line in 2019, and expanded its distribution in 2020. Despite complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the brand has been a success, Chekouras told SeafoodSource in January 2023.
